Welcome Home!

September 30, 2010

On my lunch break, I made a quick stop at Target to pick up two of these end tables (on sale for $30/each at my Target) for the den/man cave:

I fell in love with them when I first spotted them about a month ago but didn't know where to put them. However, when we started converting the office into a den/man cave, a light bulb went off and I knew they'd be perfect for the space! Welcome home little guys :)

Team Mondo

Aside from Friday, Thursday's happen to be my favorite day of the week because most of the TV shows I watch are on, including Project Runway! I personally root for Team Mondo (I can't get enough of his kookiness!) but I'm also a fan of Michael Costello and April.

Tonight's episode brings back the HP challenge from last season where the designers get to create their own pattern to be printed on fabric which they'll make their garment out of. It also looks like there's going to be a visit from someone close to the contestants (maybe family or previously voted off contestants?) and a secret from Mondo ... I can't wait to see what happens!

Will you be watching? If so, who are you rooting for?

Ch-ch-ch-changes

September 28, 2010

I'm currently in the process of converting my guest bedroom from an office into a den A.K.A. "the man cave." I hope to have before and after photos of the change posted by this weekend but in the meantime, here's a little progress shot to show you the mess I'm working with! Enjoy :)

P.S.: Sorry for the crappy cell phone shot, my camera was buried somewhere in that mess haha

Sherwin Williams Super Sale

September 24, 2010

Any weekend warriors out there planning on doing a little painting or staining? Well then, you're in luck! Sherwin Williams is having a 3-day super sale on paints, stains, painting supplies and wall coverings!

But what if you're not a weekend warrior or what if you're like me and you still haven't decided on the perfect color for your (insert room here)? Well now is still a great time to buy (even if it's just primer or painting supplies) so you'll have everything you need when you finally do decide on that perfect color!

So tell me, which room(s) will you be painting this weekend?

Jonathan Adler's Warehouse Sale

September 21, 2010

I'm so jealous of anyone that's going to be attending Jonathan Adler's Warehouse sale this weekend in Brooklyn. Like his flyer says, prices on furniture, rugs, lighting, pottery, pillows, dinnerware, accessories and more have been slashed up to 70% off! Sigh, if only I lived in New York...

Another Rug Bites the Dust

September 20, 2010

Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to be buying a new living room rug sooner than I expected. I'm currently living with a white shag one that I got at Home Depot for about $80 a little over four months ago (see below).

Although the rug was initially purchased for temporary use as a replacement to my old one that was ruined when my hardwood floors were installed, it's been great except for the fact that when it's stepped on it, the fluffiness flattens out immediately, it's a dog fur magnet and it sheds like crazy unless I vacuum it daily.

So because of the above factors, I've been looking for a new rug for a while but I've always put it last on my list of things to get because A) I already have one and B) some other things need to be replaced/fixed before the rug does. However, last night one of my dogs had an accident which left a lovely stain that refuses to budge so I've bumped the rug up closer to the top of my list and have narrowed my choices down to the following (all from Overstock.com unless otherwise noted):

#1 - A hand-tufted black and red rug that looks like wool but doesn't shed like it - HUGE plus! I love the black and red combo since it's the color story that runs throughout my house and at $150 with a 10% off coupon code and $2.95 shipping and handling, the price really can't be beat!

#2 - Another black and red rug that would make a great conversation piece and would help camouflage dog fur but at $306, it's a little more than I'd like to spend so I think I'll continue to think about it (or wait until a bigger coupon code enters my inbox ;) ).

#3 - A beautiful gray/silver rug with a fun loop pattern! The ONLY downside to this rug is that it's gray and since I already have a gray couch and a coffee table with silver legs, I'm afraid that this rug will end up blending in with its surroundings more than I'd like it to.

#4 - A bold red and yellow rug that will definitely give me the bold pop of color I'm looking for! Unfortunately, the color red in the picture is much brighter than what I'd had in mind but one reviewer said it's more of a true red and the circles aren't yellow-yellow but more of a gold/mustard color ... am I the only one who thinks of McDonald's when they see red/yellow together?

#5 - Bold black and white striped carpet tiles from FLOR® that I'm in love with. Just think of how many "new" rugs you could make every week (or month) just by rotating the tiles and creating a new pattern! Plus, if one tile gets stained, you can clean the individual tile and/or replace it if the stain becomes permanent!

So what do you think, does one of my rug choices make more sense than another?

Hunting For: Table Lamps

September 19, 2010

Today I plan on making my rounds at HomeGoods, T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and maybe Ross to find a set of table lamps for my living room since the ones I had in there have been relocated to the bedroom. However, if I end up coming home with nothing, I do have several favorites I could order online.

Let's start with exhibit A, the Rose Line Lamp from CB2:

I like the overall shape of the lamp, the little red cord peeking through and how the base takes up no visual weight but at $99 each, they're at the top of my price range. Plus, I have three clumsy dogs and if one of them were to accidentally knock into an end table causing one of the lamps to topple over and break, I may just have a mini-heart attack!

Moving onto exhibit B, the Ada Lamp also from CB2:

The Ada lamp has received great reviews from everyone who's purchased it and at $70 each, buying two of them wouldn't break the bank too badly but it's still a little more than I'd like to spend. However, I like the white on white color scheme and the shape of the base since it mimics the shape of the base of my dining room table. Hmmm...

Exhibit C is the Slice Lamp from Overstock.com:

I like the unusual shape of both the lamp's base and shade and at $60 each + my 10% off coupon code, the price doesn't end up being too bad for two lamps. However, I was thinking of replacing the rug I currently have in my living room (a white shag one) with a bold red one to add a little more color and a red rug + red lamps may = red overkill so I think I'll bookmark this one and come back to it.

Exhibit D is the Cycle Lamp from Crate and Barrel:

I've had a $50 gift card to Crate and Barrel that's been practically burning a hole in my wallet since last Christmas and if I put it towards the purchase of two of their Cycle lamps, it would bring the total price down to $110 (not including tax) which really isn't that bad! I like how the base of the lamp mimics the shape of the lamp shade and the fact that the silver base and white shade would match my coffee table which has silver legs and a white top.

Last but not least is exhibit E, which is a simple wooden lamp base from Target:

I stumbled upon these lamp bases yesterday and instantly fell in love with their simple shape but they're $30 each and don't include a harp or lamp shade. Unfortunately, my local Target's selection of lamp shades was just ok so I wasn't able to price out how much one lamp would come to but I'm assuming it'd be around the $50 or $60 mark and if I'm going to spend that much, I think I'd rather buy a lamp that comes with everything.

Here's to hoping I find something good while I'm out!
