Fabulous Finds Friday - 5th Edition

November 26, 2010

Happy Black Friday everyone! Did you sleep in a little later than usual today or were you up early heading out to shop with the masses?

If you slept in and are planning on shopping for gifts on Cyber Monday, maybe the following fabulous finds will help get you started!

Let's kick this fifth edition off with these Spilt Milk Bowls from MOMA:

[ Image via MOMA ]

I love these bowls and have wanted a set since I first saw them! They're made of flexible white silicone and are microwave and dishwasher safe and if you're a member of MOMA, you can get each bowl for $12.60, otherwise they're $14 each. They'd make a great gift for a college student or a new homeowner!

Up next is this cozy Vilme Rund throw from IKEA:

 [ Image via IKEA ]

This throw is a steal at just $12.99 and it's reversible so you're basically getting two blankets for one low price!

The third fabulous find is the Galaxy Vase from Z Gallerie:

[ Image via Z Gallerie ]

These vases are on sale for $19.99 each and are gorgeous! They can't hold water so inserting real flowers isn't an option but inserting fake ones would look just as great!

Next on the list are these window vases from CB2:

 [ Image via CB2 ]

The larger, mocha colored vase is on sale for $39.95 (from $49.95) and the smaller, light gray vase is on sale for $14.95 (from $19.95). Both vases are gorgeous and would cast awesome shadows if a tea light or pillar candle was placed inside!

Rounding out this fifth edition is the Nature Entertaining Gift Set from West Elm:

This 3-piece gift set includes two small plates and one medium plate which are embellished with a different metallic design. They're on sale for $16.99 and come pre-packaged in a gift box so you have no additional wrapping to do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 25, 2010

"May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump, may your potatoes n’ gravy, have nary a lump, may your yams be delicious, may your pies be the prize and may your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!"

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Have a safe and happy holiday :)

(Sub)Urban Home

November 23, 2010

I'm in love with everything (Sub)Urban Home has to offer! It's too bad I live 8 hours away from L.A. because I could spend all day wandering around their showroom!

Some of their selection includes:

I love that studded chair and the silver tree stump side table

This bed/studded headboard is amazing!

Such a cute coffee table and sofa

Should I go for the gold gorilla?

Or the white gorilla?

I love this other studded chair and fun patterned pillow

I'm thinking all of this calls for a road trip to the far West coast, what do you think?

Fabulous Finds Friday - 4th Edition

November 19, 2010

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to the fourth edition of Fabulous Finds Friday!

Let's kick things off with this ridiculously cute cheese slicer from Z Gallerie:

[ Image via Z Gallerie ]

C'mon, how can you not smile when looking at that?! The cheese slicer is stainless steel and comes with a generously sized 5" x 9" beech wood cheeseboard that's disguised as a giant mousetrap. At just $19.95, it'd make a great gift for a host or hostess!

Next on the list is West Elm's wood slices tray:

[ Image via West Elm ]

I'm a huge fan of trays because of their versatility and this tray in particular is gorgeous with it's modern wood print. Plus, at just $24, it would be perfect for serving cocktails or small appetizers at all of your upcoming holiday parties!

The third fabulous find is a set of two fu dog bookends from CB2:

[ Image via CB2 ]

Fu Dogs are Chinese symbols of protection and this set of two bookends would make a great gift for a new homeowner! They're just $49.95 for the pair and I love the bright pop of color they would add to a desk or a bookcase.

The fourth fabulous find is the Ung Drill frame from IKEA:

[ Image via IKEA ]

I love this frame for several reasons: 1) It can be painted any color your little heart desires 2) It can be filled with a picture or be left empty on a wall hanging above a bed or fireplace 3) It's just $29.99 and would look great in both modern and traditional homes!

Rounding out this fourth edition of Fabulous Finds Friday is this set of 3 bud vases from Jonathan Adler's Happy Chic line for HSN.com:

[ Image via HSN.com ]

Where do I start?! 3 bud vases on sale for $39.95 breaks down to just a little over $10 a vase! Not only that but there's 4 different color options to choose from including the platinum version pictured above. These would look great clustered in the middle of a dining room table filled with fresh flowers :)

Living Room Redo

November 18, 2010

A few months ago, I was inspired by this photo from Tristan Auer's portfolio:

[ Image via Tristan Auer ]

I saved it in my inspiration folder and kept going back to it every time I was trying to figure out what to do with the empty space above our fireplace so over the weekend, my boyfriend and I put our thinking caps on and made this happen:

And I hate it :(

I'm not sure if it's because our new mantel isn't installed yet or if it's because I chose mirrors that have a white frame around them instead of a black one like Tristan's. Or maybe it's because it reminds me of those houses in the 80's with the mirrored walls or because two more mirrors could fit above the 5 already there but we'd need scaffolding to put them up. Whatever it is, I don't love it so it's coming down and the painting we have in our bedroom is going in its place like so:

At 3.5 feet wide x 5 feet high, the painting is HUGE so it will help fill up a lot of the empty space on our 18 foot high walls. It will also bring some other colors into the living room which will be nice since I'm desperately trying to get out of the red, black and white color rut I've been stuck in.

I've already moved the faux cowhide rug from the man cave into the living room so once the painting is hung above the fireplace, our new mantel is installed and our walls are painted, I'm hoping our living room will end up looking something like this:

I already have all of the furniture so I'd just need to buy two new lamps (I'm returning the existing ones and getting these), a few new throw pillows and some other miscellaneous accessories and the new and improved living room will be complete!

What do you think of the upcoming changes?

Pumpkin Desserts

November 17, 2010

With Thanksgiving just a week away, I've been tasked with making dessert for everyone! I can't wait to make them either because, I don't know about you but dessert happens to be my favorite meal!

This year I'd like to make a couple of different mini desserts instead of one big dessert that might not appeal to everyone's taste buds. I bought some pumpkin pie filling on sale so I'm starting with ideas for a pumpkin based desserts first since A) I already have the ingredients and B) I'm a huge fan of pumpkin pie!

Thanks to Martha Stewart, I've stumbled upon some other ideas for pumpkin desserts. Some of my favorites include:

All of the recipes she listed sound delicious and while I'm not sure how many of them are waistline friendly, it is the holidays and a few extra carbs or calories never killed anyone, right? ;)

What dish will you be making for your Thanksgiving dinner?

Canvas People Limited Time Offer

November 15, 2010

[ Image via Canvas People ]

For a limited time only, you can get $55 off a canvas print of your favorite photo at Canvas People! An 8" x 10" canvas is FREE (yes FREE!!!) and you only have to pay for shipping and handling. You can also upgrade your purchase to a larger sized canvas, like a 16" x 20" one, and pay just $33.99 instead of the regular price of $88.99!

I've been wanting to get canvas prints made of each one of my dogs for the longest time but canvas art can be so expensive so I can't wait to jump on this offer! Also, the holidays are right around the corner and a canvas print of your family (furry or non) would make a great gift :)

Fabulous Finds Friday - 3rd Edition

November 12, 2010

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to the third edition of Fabulous Finds Friday!

Let's kick things off with this beautiful Buckley Organic Blanket from CB2:

[ Image via CB2 ]

Not only is this 100% handwoven organic cotton blanket a steal at $39.95 (from $59.95), but it's a cheerful shade of yellow that would look great draped over the back of a chair or spread out at the end of a bed!

The second find is Z Gallerie's Keep Calm and Carry On book:

[ Image via Z Gallerie ]

I know, I know, Keep Calm and Carry On stuff is everywhere but I really love the idea of this book. It offers 160 pages of inspiring quotes from famous personalities and a few of the topics covered include the economy, debt, risk, happiness and change. At just $8.95, this little book would make a perfect stocking stuffer!

Up next is a set of two oversized Faux Ostrich Leather Floor Pillows:

[ Image via Overstock.com ]

I love the subtle ostrich pattern embossed into the faux leather cover and the size of the (26" x 26". At $34.49 for the set of two, they'd make great accent pillows for a modern sofa or bed

Next on the list is the large Jilly Candle Holder from Crate and Barrel:

[ Image via Crate and Barrel ]

These Jilly candle holders have curves in all of the right places! They're only $10.95/each, stand 7.25" tall and are handcrafted from iron. Wouldn't they look great in pairs or groups along a holiday mantel or sideboard?

Last but not least are these Enchanted Buck Measuring Cups from Anthropologie:

[ Image via Anthropologie ]

These adorable measuring cups are $48 and are made of bone china. Since china pieces tend to be very fragile, I don't know how much use they'd get in my own kitchen but I do think they'd be very pretty to look as an accessory and would make a great addition to a rustic or country styled kitchen!

Giada De Laurentiis Pots and Pans

November 9, 2010

[ Image via Target ]

Just when I thought I couldn't love my boyfriend anymore, yesterday he surprised me with the Giada De Laurentiis™ 10-pc. Professional Series Tri-Ply Clad Cookware Set from Target! Why? Because I support his decisions and believe in him when he doesn't :) He kills me with his awesomeness <3

Anyways, I can't even tell you how excited I am about this gift because I've wanted this set since it was released last year but I never bought it because the pots and pans I had were just fine but now, with this set, I get to move up to the Major Leagues of cooking and I couldn't be more thrilled :)

Jonathan Adler's Happy Chic Books

November 8, 2010

For those of you who haven't already heard, Jonathan Adler's new Happy Chic books are now available and for a limited time, you can order signed copies as holiday gifts!

In his first book, Happy Chic accessorizing, Jonathan "divulges his tips for artful arranging everywhere from bed to bookshelf, dining table to dresser."

I'm really looking forward to reading how he creates vignettes that look so effortless because that's definitely an area I struggle in!

In his second book, Happy Chic Colors, Jonathan "shares his thoughts on color, revealing his go-to paint chips, favorite fabrics and personal color muses."

The image on the cover of this book has me sold so I can't wait to see how it relates to the contents of the book itself!

I've already added Jonathan's new books to my holiday wish list, have you?
