Stages of Styling: Dining Room Built-Ins

June 29, 2011

Last week I showed you how I re-styled the built-in shelves in my dining room and afterwards, I got to thinking about just how much they've changed.

For example, they currently look like this:

But back in April they looked like this:

In December, they were styled like this for Christmas:

And in October, they were partially styled like this for Halloween:

While I'm definitely not a styling pro, I think my styling has improved a lot especially since this is what the built-ins looked like in December 2009, long before I'd started blogging:

Notice the newly painted yellow ceiling with the gray paint streaks? The patterned fabric built-in backing? The random objects on the shelves (a clock, some frames, a pair of sunglasses)?

I'd say I've come a longgg way from then to now :)

Dining Room Built-Ins: Part 2

June 22, 2011

Remember how the built-in shelves in my dining room looked back in April? Well over the weekend I made some changes and here's how they're looking today:

I included a lot of my newly thrifted treasures and moved things around some. I think they're looking much better but check back in July when I'm sure I'll have updated them again ;)

Lowe's DIY Industrial Side Tables

June 21, 2011

Have you guys seen these awesome DIY Industrial Side Tables from Lowe's Creative Ideas?

I love them! Think of all of the possibilities! You could stain the wood tops a different color to match your decor and you could spray paint the metal base for even more contrast.

A matching coffee table would be nice too! Just remember to add a center support beam so it doesn't sag in the middle :)

Luxury Lust: Louis Vuitton Vintage Suitcases

June 14, 2011

If there's one luxury item I'd be forever grateful to receive, it's a vintage Louis Vuitton suitcase. Or set of suitcases :)

Unfortunately, I don't have several thousand dollars to spend on one but it's fun to dream!

What's one luxury item you'd love to have?

Thrifted Treasures

June 13, 2011

On Friday night, my boyfriend and I made our way around to some of our favorite local thrift stores. We hadn't been to them in a while because the last few times we went we struck out so I honestly wasn't expecting much but I was wrong! Look at what we got:

The Eiffel Tower bookends were $6.98 for the pair. The top point is missing and there are some dents and dings on them but they're in great shape overall! I'm debating on painting them white...

The books were:

$2.99 for Chasing Harry Winston
$1.99 for Style 101
$2.99 for Marley and Me
$1.99 for A Million Little Pieces
$1.99 for Sugar and Spice

TOTAL: $11.95 for all 5!!!

I scored this (ridiculously heavy) domed glass cloche for just $3.99 at Goodwill which is identical to this $19 one from Williams Sonoma!

Story behind the Armadillo:

When my mom and I used to go on vacations to Tucson, we would road trip it out here. One year when we were driving, I kept seeing dead Armadillo's on the side of the road but I kept calling them Anteaters for whatever reason.

My mom couldn't figure out what I was talking about until she saw the shell of a dead Armadillo and explained what it was. We laughed and joked about it the rest of our vacation so when I saw the little Armadillo, I knew it was coming home with me :)

And for only $4.98, how could I say no?!

After having so much luck in Tucson, we drove up to Phoenix on Saturday to go to IKEA (of course!) and to check our their thrift store scene.

We only had time to stop at a Goodwill but we found a fun patterned Food Network mug for 65 cents and four CB2 appetizer plates that were in perfect condition and were only 99 cents each!

We also went to Ross where I found this green Foo Dog statue for $8.99. I'm debating on whether or not I should paint it white...

GRAND THRIFTING TOTAL (excluding Foo Dog from Ross): $32.51!!!

Not too bad if I may say so myself! What's something you've picked up on a recent thrifting adventure?

HGTV'd Princess Party Pad Makeover

June 7, 2011

Did anyone else catch last night's premiere of HGTV'd? If you didn't, stop reading now so I don't spoil things for you! If you did, what'd you think?!

[ Image via HGTV ]

The first episode was a Princess Party Pad makeover that was completed by David Bromstad. I liked parts of the room but a lot of it was way too over the top for my personal style.

I'm loving the tufted yellow couch but the coffee table and chandelier aren't for me.

Those tufted purple dining room chairs and that shaggy white rug are great even though the rug wouldn't last 5 minutes in my house haha

I don't know if you can see them but David used crocodile textured recycled leather tiles for the flooring. TO. DIE. FOR!

What did you think of the makeover? Are you excited for next week's episode?!

Bunkbeds

June 2, 2011

I don't have any children but how awesome would these bunkbeds be for a kids room?! Those little cubbies could hold books, stuffed animals, a glass of water, etc.

Definitely being pinned to my Pinterest account for future room inspiration!
