2013 Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald

December 19, 2012

In case you haven't heard, the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year is....

Emerald! Specifically Pantone 17-5641 :)

Pantone's press release states that emerald is "sophisticated and luxurious" and is the color of "growth, renewal, and prosperity" and I have to agree. It's a beautiful green with subtle hints of blue undertones and looks amazing in home interiors as a bold paint color:

And as painted furniture:

It also looks great in home accessories like these gorgeous but oh-so-pricey faux malachite jewelry boxes:

I think they'd look great sitting on top of a dresser holding your precious jewels or on an entry table as a place to corral your keys, watch, coins, etc.

This beautiful swaying palms pillow cover is a great example of how emerald can bring life to your home:

The color pops nicely against the white couch and I think it would look beautiful if it was paired with some gold and eggplant colored accents in a living room or bedroom.

If boxes and throw pillows aren't your thing, maybe this rug is?

This beautiful ikat patterned rug was designed by Genevieve Gorder and is very on-trend in more ways than one.

Emerald art is also beautiful:

It allows you to bring the color of the year into your home without a making an expensive commitment to it in case you change your mind about it mid-year.

Last but not least, emerald is beautiful in nature:

Not only do succulents look great planted together in a big pot, they also look beautiful on their own in a terrarium sitting on your windowsill or as a centerpiece on your dining room table.

What do you think of the color of the year? Will you be inviting it into your home?

  2. I'm thinking about it! I have a huge faux palm frond looking thing that's kind of emerald in color and I love how it looks so I'd like to bring additional emerald pieces into my home eventually. Maybe I can find a way to DIY those boxes cause $200/box isn't going to happen haha

  3. Those boxes really are to diy for (haha - hopefully you get that!) I also love the rug. I think I could totally live in a green house. Where most everything is mono-chromatic and it would have really tall ceilings :). I would probably eventually want more color though.

  4. I love the color too and have already thinking about where to put it in my home. Love the photos and inspirations. This color would go great with my latest gold obsession.
I'm in love with that rug!

Julia - Thanks! It would definitely look great with all of the gold goods you have around your house :)
