Foyer Progress

I made some progress on our foyer over the weekend. The last time you saw it, it looked like this:

Now it looks like this:

On a whim one night I brought the bench from our bedroom downstairs to see how it'd look. Of course I love it so now I need to buy another bench for our bedroom haha

I paired the bench with this piece of art that used to hang on the blank wall in our dining room:

I didn't really think about it before but I like the idea of having a dedicated place for our guests to sit down and take their shoes off when they come over.

The bench is a little deeper than what I wanted for the space but there's still plenty of room to pass by it so it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might:

View from our loft/staircase:

We were in the middle of building a table for the foyer but I kind of decided that I don't really need another surface to decorate so I scratched that idea. The bench + art combo is working well for now.

Have a seat :)

I still want to hang a cordless picture light above the artwork and maybe add a coat hook on the staircase wall. I'd love to add a runner but realistically I can't because A) it'd get dirty in 3.2 seconds and B) we're constantly throwing our dogs toys into the hallway for them to fetch. If we had a runner, they'd most likely slip and fall on it or I'd constantly be adjusting it so it's a no for now.

What do you think of the updates? What else would you do with the space?

  1. I love the bench and artwork. Looks great. I have the same Target pillow ;)
A cordless light for the artwork would be great too.

  3. It looks really great. Love how all the elements are playing so well together. Perfect colors all around.

I also love filling new spaces with existing furniture, then getting a new piece for the other space :)

  4. Julia - Aren't Target's pillows the best? I got that one on clearance for $7, I think!

Thanks Gabbi! I hope our guests say the same thing :)

Thanks Katja! I love moving furniture around too but I don't do it often since it costs me extra money to buy replacement pieces haha

  7. I love the bench there! It is also a good place to "hide" shoes too. We always leave our shoes out and it is a mess!

  9. Oh... WOW!
This is so simple and... BEAUTIFUL! You did a great job! You made a GREAT entrance with only few elements, it is not only fuctional, but terribly stilish. You did a great job!
Here I have a feeling that I will steal your idea at some point! :)

  11. looks great...isn't it fun to "shop" in our own homes. If it were me I would add some color...lots of white in that space. Perhaps reupholster the top of that bench or paint the front door wall an accent color.

  12. Michelle - Hahaha! I got it ;) And thanks!

Crystal - Thanks! I think the hiding shoes function will be nice too. We toss ours in a closet under our stairs but our guests shoes usually end up in random places haha

Geesha - Thanks! The shell is from Nate Berkus' line at Target if you're wondering :)

Hello Door Seven - Awww, thank you! Feel free to steal away :)

See - Thanks! The bench is a knock off Barcelona from Overstock. It's the Andalucia bench and mine is the 60" white leather one. The legs were chrome but I spray painted them ORB.

Diane - Thank you! Color is my down fall :( I just can't seem to get it right! Come help me out haha

  14. YESSSS. I love this, especially the huge scale of everything together. Makes me wish I had a giant hallway like this!

  15. Chelsea - Thanks! I have no idea who it is but the artist does create a lot of work with celebs in his pieces so it could be! Totally looks like her now that you mention it haha

    Kelly - Thank you! :D

  16. I love this nook! I love all the white, but I think Diane is right that a pop of color is needed. I love the idea of painting the back of the door - what about pulling a soft teal out of the painting's colors? Or what about just adding a teal or pink pillow to the grey one on the bench - that's nice and low commitment - plus you can audition a few and return the ones you don't like to the store!

  17. Thanks Sarah! I've thought about painting the back of the door but I don't know what color to choose. Maybe black? That might be too "Halloween" though with the front of the door being orange and all. Navy would be nice but then I think of the Chicago Bears team colors haha A colored pillow is a good start though! I'll have to dig through my stash and see if I can find one :)
