Gem Show Recap

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I spent mine at the gem show!

It's hard to wrap your head around how big the show actually is unless you go but it's madness! A variety of vendors are everywhere and there's a TON of stuff for sale.

Ready for a ton of photos? Here we go!

We started each day in the agate section:

These 3/4" - 1" thick agate slices were priced at $5 each or 3 for $10. I bought 15 of them because the price was just too good! I may be selling some so stay tuned :)

Agate bookends were selling for $1.50/lb.

I bought 3 sets and only spent $25 total! One side/piece of the bookends are priced for $20 at my local HomeGoods which means it would have cost me $120 to buy 3 sets there! The prices are INSANE, I'm telling you!

This tent was full of petrified wood and amethyst geodes:

The prices ranged from $150 - $500 depending on the size and quality. I've wanted a geode for years and am planning on getting one next year!

These tall geodes were in a different section of the show:

I honestly thought they wanted $86 for this piece:

I was planning on buying it until the vendor informed me that it was 86kg in weight. I didn't ask how much a kilogram was going for but I'm assuming the set was around $5,000.

A different vendor was selling amethyst chunks that were carved into hearts. I fell in love with one but he wanted $200 for it. I asked him how long it takes to carve each heart and he said a good artist can complete one in 3 hours! Pretty sure my jaw hit the table haha

This tent had 1,000's upon 1,000's of strands of beads for sale. This photo doesn't even touch the tip of the bead iceberg AKA the amount for sale:

There were also a ton of handmade pendants for sale:

Along with a sea of multi-colored strands of pearls:

It was a jewelry maker's paradise!

Back outside we saw a section of massive rocks:

These things must have weighed 2 or 3 tons and probably cost an arm and a leg too!

When I'm rich and famous, I'm buying this monster for my future mansion:

What? I can dream :)

These little guys were hanging out behind their massive friends. I saw some nice pieces but the vendor was a little over priced compared to others, unfortunately.

I really wanted a chunk of pyrite gold:

I came *this close* to buying one but when I got to the checkout, I found out that the vendor was cash only (even though no signs were posted) and had my bag taken away because I didn't have cash. I'm still bummed about that.

Anyway, one vendor was selling these really nice pieces of mookaite:

My mom and I both wanted this big chunk:

I can't remember how much it was but it was out of both of our budgets. Maybe next year!

I'd show you what I ended up bringing home but this post is already really long so you'll just have to stop by tomorrow to see! Speaking of tomorrow, I'm giving away a set of agate bookends! Mark your calendars, I'll see you bright and early :)

Who's coming to the gem show next year with me? You know you want to!

  1. I saw your Instagram photo yesterday. This is some amazing stuff. I think I would go crazy browsing through all those treasures.

  2. Wow.. everything looks beautiful!! I think I am in love with the amethyst geodes!!

  3. Thanks Julia! We browsed for around 4 hours on Saturday and about 2 1/2 yesterday and we still missed a bunch of stuff!

Thanks Melissa! Aren't they beautiful? I saw a bunch of people buying them and was so jealous haha

  4. Oh my GOODNESS! Last time you posted about the gem show (I think it was in your agate coaster DIY tutorial?) I looked up some in my area and had missed it by a week. The next on is in April, and I don't want to wait that long! Haha. I'm trying to buy small agate slices to frame inside of a thick mat in a gallery wall. Let me know if you decide to end up selling any- I may be interested in one of the larger pieces! :)

  5. I love these giveaway bookends! They would have a happy life living it up in my craft room. The colors are perfect!

  6. I also follow on Instagram. Feel free to follow back:)

  7. I just want to say that all of your pieces are so unique and beautiful. I wish we had something like that around here! I followed and liked you on Facebook(Lexi LeAnn) and instagram (_nightxowl_) and just figured out how to make a profile to follow your blog. I love gems/rocks/crystals and I have never seen an idea like this before! I am moving into my first apartment within the next couple of months and I would put them on a wall bookshelf I plan to build across from a window! ( I am a complete bookworm) I would want to share the beauty of them with everyone who comes over. Plus, I have already boughten everything for my apartment and guess what colors I chose, sand, brown and AQUA! Thanks for the chance! -Lexi
