Powder Room Reveal

UPDATE: Click here to see the DIY gold leaf ampersand art tutorial :)

Also, for those asking about the "frame" I added around our mirror – unfortunately, it's not a frame, it's a whole new mirror I found at HomeGoods! Sorry for the confusion!

In addition to "finishing" our loft, we've also "finished" our powder room!

In case you're wondering why I'm putting finished in quotes it's because a room is truly never finished to me since I'm always constantly tweaking things. Case in point: I'm still considering swapping out the pedestal sink for a vanity sink to gain some storage space but I digress...

You may remember the mirror:

It used to be emerald green but the paint job I did was horrible. I removed the mirror from the frame, wet sanded the paint off until all of the brush strokes were gone and the frame was smooth again, and then I spray painted it oil-rubbed bronze. It's not perfect but it's far better than it was when it was green!

The mirror is the perfect size and ties in nicely with our DIY chunky wooden floating shelves:

You may or may not have seen these guys before ;)

The bottom shelf has been restyled since the last time you saw it:

I don't know if you've seen them but Target is selling a set of silver metal orbs like my rusted ones on the top shelf! They're part of the Threshold line and are $9.99 for the small one and $14.99 for the big one which is about what I paid for mine from HomeGoods last fall. Just thought I'd toss that out there since a lot of people ask where I got my orbs from :)

One more styling shot for good luck ;)

Speaking of DIY projects, click here for the full DIY gold leaf ampersand tutorial!

It's based off of one Brittany Makes did for 6th Street Design School last week. I loved the piece she made so much that I had to make one of my own!

How about a before and after shot?

The changes aren't major (mostly cosmetic) but it's crazy to see how much different the room looks now:

What do you think of our powder room?

  6. Very nice! I actually picked up the small metal orb a couple of weeks ago when I got my brassy rhino (which I subsequently also bought the brassy lion a few days ago). I haven't put it anywhere yet and I sort of wonder if it is "wrong" to have the small orb without the big orb...what do you think?

  7. Thanks Crystal! I don't think you need both! The little one could sit on top of a stack of books or next to a vase of flowers! If the big one goes on sale, I'd grab it just so you don't regret not getting it later on ;)
