2013 Home Goals Check-in

Back in January, I posted an extensive list of my 2013 home goals that outlined what I'd like to do to each room in our house before 2014 rolls around. Today I'm back to check-in on the progress we've made!

Foyer
90% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Maybe paint the back of the front door
  • Add a cornice board above the window
  • Add a gallery wall to the staircase wall (will need scaffolding and maybe a pro to do this since our ceilings are 20' high)
  • Add a large clock to the outside of the loft's half wall. It's hard to explain, here's an old photo that'll hopefully help you see what I'm talking about:

Living Room
5% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Replace our couch
  • Replace or update our coffee table
  • Add extra seating (the gray chair is getting moved to our office)
  • Add a gallery wall behind the TV
  • Decide on a rug (I bought a new one this weekend that might replace the current on)
  • Hang some drapes (purchased, yet to be hung)

Dining Room
95% complete (although it's pending a makeover)

Done:

To do:
  • Hang some drapes (purchased, yet to be hung)
  • Possibly switch out the rug and artwork

Kitchen
90% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Add under cabinet lighting
  • Maybe add a backsplash
  • Possibly paint the pantry's pocket door

Powder Room
100% complete!

Done:

To do:
  • Nada! :D

Master Bedroom
5% complete

Don't let that photo fool you, the room looks nothing like it anymore...

Done:
  • Set up our furniture
  • Replaced the boob light fixture with a ceiling fan

To do:
  • Get a new rug (sold the one above) - the new one I mentioned earlier is a contender
  • Get another bench (the one above lives in the foyer now)
  • Add a little seating area
  • Maybe replace the nightstands? Them + the dresser (not shown) = brown town USA
  • Hang some drapes (purchased, yet to be hung)
  • Hang some art
  • Maybe rearrange the furniture
  • Paint

Master Bathroom
1% complete

Done:
  • We filled the vanity cabinets/drawers with our stuff, does that count as something?

To do:
  • Frame out the giant builder mirror or replace it with two smaller mirrors
  • Replace the light fixture
  • Replace the toilet paper roll holder and the towel bar
  • Get a longer shower curtain
  • Add a cornice board to the window above the shower
  • Add a cornice board to the window above the toilet
  • Add some art to the blank walls

Master Closet
1% complete

Done:
  • Filled the room with our clothes ;)

To do:
  • I'd love to rip out all of the shelving the builder added and replace it with shelving that we make ourselves or a PAX unit from IKEA
  • Add a full length mirror
  • Replace the boob light fixture
  • Paint?

Guest Bedroom
1% complete

Done:
  • Successfully moved my accessory hoard into the room

To do:
  • Get a bed or a couch that can turn into a bed
  • Get some nightstands
  • Get a rug
  • Get a dresser (probably going to use our vintage campaign one)
  • Hang some artwork
  • Hang some drapes (purchased, yet to be hung)
  • Clean out the closet
  • Replace the boob light fixture

Guest Bathroom
5% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Paint it, stencil it, or wallpaper it
  • Frame out the giant builder mirror
  • Replace the light fixture
  • Replace the toilet paper roll holder, hand towel ring, and towel bar
  • Hang some art
  • Bring in some cute decorative accessories

Loft
100% complete!

Done:

To do:
  • Nuttin'

Laundry Room
1% complete

Done:
  • Our builder put our washer and dryer in the room and we loaded up the linen closet - totally counts, right?

To do:
  • Make sure our washer isn't broken (tech is coming out to look at it today)
  • Paint it, stencil it, or wallpaper it
  • Add some art
  • Maybe add a shelf - our washer and dryer sit on top of pedestal's making them about 5' tall AKA too high to grab anything out of a cabinet and maybe off of a shelf...
  • Organize the linen closet
  • Replace the boob light fixture

Office
15% complete

Done:
  • Switched our office and guest bedrooms and brought our desks into the new room
  • Painted (you'll see the new color soon!)
  • Brought in a rug (coming soon!)
  • Replaced the desk chairs (coming soon!)

To do:
  • Add some shelving to the wall where the dresser is shown above (purchased, one is assembled, two are on deck, all need to be painted)
  • Style said shelving
  • Turn my boyfriend's desk into a campaign style one
  • Add a gallery wall above our desks
  • Hang some artwork on the additional blank walls
  • Hang some drapes (purchased, yet to be hung)
  • Add some extra seating (gray chair from living room)
  • Clean out/organize the closet
  • Replace the boob light fixture

Backyard/Back Patio
10% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Add ground cover
  • Add landscaping
  • Pour a concrete slab for a dining/grilling area

Front Patio/Front Yard
90% complete

Done:

To do:
  • Add a bench or a couple of chairs to the front courtyard
  • Add some plants
  • Add some long modern pavers down the weird side alley that leads you to the backyard

6 months down, 6 more to go! Let's see what else we can get done!

  1. This is a really ambitious list. You home is lovely and it takes a long time to get it right. Good luck.

  2. I'm so impressed! I love list-making and think it helps so much when working on your home. I think your bathroom mirror needs to make an appearance in my house, too!

  3. Thanks Linda! The list kind of morphed into the ultimate dream list of things we'd like to do instead of just what we want to accomplish in 2013. We'll see how much we get done though!

    Thanks Kim! :)

  4. You all are busy! I'm impressed. I make lists like this and then panic and throw them away. ;)
