Guest Bedroom Before

May 14, 2014

The next room we'd like to address is our guest bedroom, which currently looks like this:

This room used to be our office but now it's our catchall room for miscellaneous items.

I love the double windows:

I don't really like the angled wall:

The room is a decent size and has a walk-in closet:

The closet is currently filled with books, decorative items, and homeless lamps. One day I'd like to fill it with built-ins. If built-ins aren't possible, I'd like to try and reconfigure the shelf layout.

If you're wondering, the dresser drawer is on the floor because I think I broke the track it slides on and I haven't had a chance to fix it yet ;)

This wall could be a great feature wall but it's currently holding items I plan on donating:

The room is also home to a random assortment of frames and mirrors:

As well as a couple of chairs...

And some large pieces of art.

If I'm being honest, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with the room. We haven't had a guest spend the night in the 2 years we've lived here (and I don't think that's changing any time soon) so turning it into a bedroom that will never be used seems a little silly.

I've thought about turning the room into a studio space where I can work on projects since I currently work on them at our dining room table. I could include a daybed that would be great for seating and function as a bed in the event that we do have an overnight guest.

I'll be clearing everything out of the room and painting it this weekend so stay tuned!

  4. We have a third bedroom in very similar shape. We're thinking about making it a guest room/office/storage space. The main buy would be a daybed. Good luck!

  5. I have a catch-all room like that too that is our "guest room". It's a disaster and is SO packed you cannot walk into it. I better get on that. Eeeeeeeeek!

  7. I had a room and a closet like this lol. I loved going shopping in it but all too often it became an overflow area. I love the idea of a studio though!

  8. You have more cute things in your guest bedroom than I have in my WHOLE house! Will you adopt me? ;)

  9. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that hoards decor. You have it contained in a room. Mine is currently all over the house.

  10. I love the idea of a studio. I'm right there with you. I'm always sprawled out all over the place when working on a project. Although, for me, a workspace in the garage always seems a little more practical since my projects are usually involving spray painting and power tools. I'm sure you could come up with a really functional storage solution for all homeless lamps and such.
