Water Closet Before + Plans

You know those rooms that never get any TLC until one day a plan hits you and then all of a sudden you can't make them over fast enough?

That's what happened to me this weekend when I decided I couldn't stand our water closet anymore!

We're currently working on our master closet and master bedroom so of course it'd make sense that I add another makeover to our list! ...that's sarcasm by the way... ;)

This "room" is tiny though (33" wide x 73" long) so I'm hoping to get it done fairly quickly and for less than $100! Maybe $150...

I want to paint the walls and add a pelmet box to the window.

I'm thinking of using IKEA's black and white striped fabric:

There's a blank space above our toilet that never really bothered me until I started thinking of ways to make it more functional.

We're going to add a floating shelf above the toilet because, well, that's kind of my thing! Oh, and it'd be nice to have a space for storing extra toilet paper :)

I'd like to add a rug in front of the toilet but my husband thinks I'm crazy haha

To clarify, I'm envisioning something colorful and vintage, not something you'd get in a bath mat set! No offense to those that have bath mat sets...

The space contains a single recessed light that I plan on converting to a hardwired fixture.

Remember the lotus pendant that we couldn't use in our laundry room due to a lack of light? It'll be added to our water closet!

I don't think a lack of light will be an issue in the space since we have the window + the lights above our bathroom's vanity which is directly across from our water closet to help illuminate things.

We've already removed the towel bar we never used and it's surprising how much bigger the room feels without it sticking out!

In the towel bar's place, we'll be adding some simple, bathroom themed art to the walls:

A toilet paper patent will go on one side...

Anddddd...

...a toilet paper holder patent will go on the other side!

Here's a mockup of what the room will (hopefully) look like once it's all finished (minus a new toilet paper holder)!

I'll be revealing the painted room on Wednesday so stay tuned! :)

    1. Thank you! I found them on Etsy! If you search for "bathroom art patent", a ton of listings come up for bathroom related things like brushes and combs, toilets, shaving kits, etc. There's a ton of cool patents out there! :)

  3. Love the look! One suggestion- how about turning the fabric on the window so the stripes go horizontal. It may not work but, it would continue the horizontal line of the blinds.

    1. Thanks Mel! Turning the fabric is such a good idea! Maybe the stripes will help make the room look wider like they make me look haha :)

  4. I'm glad you have somewhere for that fabulous light fixture to go! And water closet? Our real estate agent called it a "poop room." Maybe you should switch to that ;)

    1. Me too, Gretchen! Poop room lol Whatever it's called, I think it's such a silly space but I'm going to try and make the best of it!

  5. I don't get why there's a towel bar in there since the door would close off this area. Is that just me? Anyway… love the ideas, especially the lotus light and the big, chunky shelf. I love how you did the shelves in your other bathroom so I bet this room will look great!

  6. I love this soooooooo much! The patents .. oh my word. My boys would love those. I may have to copy that idea for their bathroom someday. Plus it is a good tutorial for WHICH WAY to put the toilet paper on the roll ... not that anybody does that around here besides me. ;) I hope you win with the rug BTW.
