Thrift Score Thursday: Vintage Brass Bamboo Nesting Tables

I stopped by a new-to-me local thrift store a couple of weeks ago to check out a set of nesting tables they were advertising on Craigslist.

I was kind of shocked that the tables were still available since they were only asking $23 for the set:

Aside from a lot of patina and a couple of scratches on the glass, the tables are in great shape!

The two brass cranes below came home with me as well:

They were $3/each! :D

I'm using the tables as a nightstand in our guest bedroom. I love that our guests will have plenty of space to put a glass of water, their phone, a magazine, etc.

I can't find any markings on the tables so I'm not sure if they're made of real brass or just plated to look like brass.

I found a similar set of tables on Chairish:

The tip of the table legs are slightly different than mine (they're flared out) but everything else looks the same! The seller is asking $450 for the set + $359 in shipping if you're not local. $809 vs my $23 – I think I got a good deal ;)

    1. Thanks Jenn! I found the acrylic M at HomeGoods, a decorative accessory store in the states. Maybe you have something similar in Germany! :)

  2. I LOVE these finds! I passed on a set of brass birds like this a year or so back, and I have regretted it ever since. I've seen them on so many blogs and think they look awesome.

If you are interested in trying to clean up the tarnish/patina, you might want to try Brasso. My grandmother gave me a huge, etched brass tray that she was planning to throw away due to the tarnish -- it was really bad -- and I had pretty decent success cleaning it up using Brasso. Depending on the look you are going for with the tables, it might be worth a shot.

Thanks for sharing this post! I've never commented before, but I really love your thrifting posts. It helps me get inspired to look for new things on my own thrifting trips!

    1. Thanks Jess! And thanks for commenting! :)

Yes, I love Brasso! I think I'm going to keep the tables as-is because the patina adds a bit of character and doesn't drive me as crazy as I thought it would haha

  4. Great find - that price is insane! And my FAVORITE trick for convincing my husband to accept my weird Craigslist/ thrift store house purchases is to find its expensive twin on an antique site. Works like a charm!

  6. Love these nesting tables! I'd say you got a good deal / the person that pays $800 for the nesting tables on Chairish is out of their mind ;)

    1. Thanks! It's the New 2 You thrift store on Grant, a little past Swan. It isn't in the greatest part of town but they had a lot of stuff for cheap! :D
