2016 Goals

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday! We took down our Christmas decorations, cleaned our garage, and then met my brother and sister-in-law for dinner!

Anyway, like everyone else, I have some goals for 2016. The usual goals include losing weight, getting in shape, getting out of debt, etc. but the other goals include this blog. I've been thinking a lot about whether or not I should let it go and walk away or give it all I've got and see where it takes me.

In 2015, I was planning our wedding and didn't have much time or money to devote to blogging. I took an extended break and came back to crickets. My page views had dropped, my readers had moved on, and you could practically hear a pin drop in my comments section. Don't get me wrong – I'm not surprised that any of those things happened (I only posted 38 times after all), I was just sad they did because I guess I just thought things wouldn't be so bad when I came back.

When I started posting again, it felt like I was starting over from square one. My motivation to continue kept fading away because it seemed like no one cared about my posts/projects anymore. I know bigger and better blogs are emerging everyday and there's a lot of blogs to read which can be overwhelming but I hope I can get my blog back to where it was before I left it. I feel like I owe it, and you, that :)

All that to say, my blogging goal for 2016 is to post 5 days a week, starting on Monday!

Here's my new weekly schedule:

Mondays will be dedicated to the re-launch of my "Must Make List", a series I started back in July 2014. I'll be featuring 3 different blogger's projects I want to make each week.

Tuesdays will be known as "Tutorial Tuesday". I'll be sharing a DIY project, a quick tip, or a how to post with you!

Wednesdays will be known as "What I'm Doing Wednesday". I'll be filling you in on a house project or e-design project I'm working on.

Thursdays will continue to be my "Thrift Score Thursday" days.

Fridays will be dedicated to "Finds and Facts". I'll be sharing my favorite finds (projects and products) from around the Interwebs + a fact or two about me so you can get to know me better! :)

Sound good?!

I feel like I can make this happen but I also feel like I could burn out in March so bear with me as I try this whole "blogging 5 days a week" thing on for size!

Also, I don't know why I feel the need to mention this but I do have a full-time job in addition to the blog and my e-design services so I may miss a day or two. I'm really am going to try my hardest to stick to the new schedule though so I hope you'll stick around to see what I'll be posting this year!

  1. Hi Caitlin -- That's an ambitious schedule, especially with a full-time job!! Please don't overextend yourself. Some of my favorite bloggers post only three times a week and I still love them ; )

I just started following you recently and I love your blog. Don't be discouraged about the low numbers, I'm sure you'll have your readership back in no time.

    Happy New Year!

  2. You are one of my favorite bloggers! Your posts are young and fresh and not the same old thing as some others I follow! I especially love that you are located in my beautiful state of Arizona. I was born and raised in southern Az but have lived in Phoenix for 40 years! Hopefully, you will find a schedule that you can live with. Five days a week with a full time job sounds overwhelming! Wishing you a Happy New Year!

  3. Ambitious! Good luck! I'm looking forward to more posts from you this year, but I won't hold you to five times a week if it starts to be overwhelming :). For whatever it's worth, I think engagement and comments have been way down all over lately, even for those of us who posted fairly regularly all year :(

  4. I'm totally feeling you and wrote something similar. Happy New Year

  5. Best of luck with the new schedule but don't overwhelm yourself. It's better to set realistic goals and stick to them than to stress yourself out and give up. I follow many blogs and do not expect posts 5 days a week. I think consistency and quality are more important than frequency- just my opinion. Anyway, sticking with you and Happy New Year!

  6. I agree - don't overwhelm yourself. I still read your blog posts as soon as they are posted via my RSS reader! I don't typically comment anywhere - but that doesn't mean I'm not here and supporting you! Happy New Year!

  7. Hey, Caitlin, I'm still here. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one afraid you may be taking on too much for a new schedule. I don't know many blogs that post 5x/wk!! Maybe I just don't follow them. That's a bit much for me to slog thru my emails each weekday, ya know? I suspect there's more still here that simply don't respond, like me. You used to get a bunch of comments and I didn't have anything new to add most of the time. I REALLY enjoyed gettig to help you decide on which chair and sofa styles you were going to buy. And I enjoyed the big agate sale you told about and showed how to make the beautiful gold-lined coasters. It was all achievable and current trends. But I'll try to chime in a bit more and let ya know there's more than crickets out here! Happy New Year!

  8. Don't stop. I love reading blogs. Love. I follow many blogs that have tons of sponsors, likes, comments, etc. but I feel like many are just recycling the same ole ideas, projects, etc. You think outside the box and have some of the best DIYs out there in blog land. In my opinion, you are a true original.

  9. I agree with the others, this is a rather ambitious goal and would hate for your to overextended yourself. I absolutely love your blog and read just about every posts. Your photos, your projects, the design of them are they best I've seen!! I also appreciate your posts being short and sweet!
    Happy New Year!!

  10. I came across your blog over a year ago while googling Winterhaven, of all things. I have enjoyed it, and will continue to enjoy it, no matter how often you manage to post.

And I have to say, I am dying to know where you thrift! I never score larger pieces at my local Goodwills or Savers. I would love to know your secret ;-)
